Xifaxan for Chronic Constipation

Xifaxan is not actually used for constipation. It is used to treat diarrhea, especially diarrhea associated with E. Coli. This medication is not absorbed into the bloodstream like many other antibiotics. Do not take this medication if you are pregnant or nursing, because it will be transferred to the baby and could cause severe problems. You should see relief from the diarrhea within 24 hours of taking this medication.
