Telemarketing Job Duties

Telemarketing is often given a bad rap, as some people see it as an intrusion of their home life. However, when telemarketers do their job properly, not only can they promote a better image for telemarketers, they can also make good money.

  1. Script Memorization

    • Telemarketers typically have a script they are required to follow strictly. Memorizing these scripts is one of the many duties a telemarketer must undertake.

    Customer Service

    • While a large part of telemarketing revolves around a sales script or guidelines, being patient and answering potential customer's questions is a vital aspect for telemarketers.

    Product Knowledge

    • It is difficult to sell any product if you have no knowledge of it. Telemarketers must know everything they can about the products they are selling to be better equipped to explain products and services to their customers.

    Customer Records

    • Another duty telemarketers must perform is recording customer information. This not only includes name, address, phone number, and so forth, but also reactions to products by prospective customers. Most of this information is entered into a database during the call.

    Sales

    • Ultimately, the number one duty of a telemarketer is to make sales.

    Follow-Up Calls

    • One final duty many telemarketing companies employ is follow-up calls. These can be an attempt at more sales relating to their previous purchase, or just a courtesy call to thank the customer for their business.
