What Type of Jobs Are in Banking?

If you want a career in banking, there are a number of careers that you can choose from. You can start with the most elementary position and work your way up. The job that you choose will depend on your interests, goals and objectives. Some jobs in banking require you to have sales experience, and others require you to have experience handling cash. The primary products in a bank are checking and savings accounts.

Tellers/Cashiers

An entry-level position in a bank is a teller or cashier. This job requires you to greet customers, balance a cash drawer, transfer money to the vault, cash paychecks, give change and take deposits for customers.

Sales Associate

As a sales associate, you are required to meet and greet customers and find out their needs. The correct banking product should be matched to the customer's needs based on product features.

Assistant Manager

An assistant manager is responsible for supervising branch staff, including tellers and head tellers. An assistant manager is also responsible for business development and sales within the branch.

Branch Sales Manager

A branch sales manager is in charge of the entire branch, including operations. The manager is responsible for supervising all branch employees, and needs to be able to delegate, motivate and give feedback to employees. Branch managers also develop business for the branch.

Financial Advisers

Financial advisers are assigned to several branches. They are responsible for helping customers invest their funds in mutual funds, stocks, bonds and other investment vehicles so that they can maximize their return on investment.
