Side Effects of a Nose Job

"Nose job" is a term used to describe rhinoplasty, the surgical reshaping of the nose. Nose jobs are commonly used as a cosmetic procedure to lengthen, shorten, straighten or otherwise alter the appearance of the nose, but the surgery comes with several negative side effects.

  1. Infection

    • All surgical procures introduce the possibly of infection, since they involve piercing or cutting through the skin.

    Nasal Blockage

    • Nose jobs may leave one's nasal passages less open, making it more difficult to breathe through the nose. It can also trigger frequent nosebleeds, which can inhibit breathing through the nose.

    Nerve Damage

    • A nose job may cause never damage to the face, resulting in a loss of feeling in the nose.

    Chronic Pain

    • Sometimes nose jobs result in chronic nasal pain and swelling or bruising that does not clear up quickly.

    Shape

    • It is likely that a patient's nose will not look exactly like she wanted it to look after a nose job, or that the nose will end up crooked or changed slightly over the course of a year. Many people who get nose jobs end up having another treatment done to correct problems with the first surgery, which can get very costly.
