Paranoid Schizophrenia Symptoms

Paranoid schizophrenia is a mental disorder where the victim loses touch with reality. He will hallucinate, see things that aren't there, and have delusions, notions about things that don't exist in reality. Paranoid schizophrenia can occur from teenagers to people in their mid-30s.

  1. Delusions

    • People with paranoid schizophrenia tend to believe that people are "after them." For example, a common symptom is that they tend to believe the government or someone wants to kill them. Also, people with paranoid schizophrenia tend to have delusions of grandeur.

    Hallucinations

    • Hearing sounds, such as voices, is common in people with paranoid schizophrenia. Usually these voices will say denigrating things about the person or command them to do things they don't want to do.

    Suicidal Thoughts

    • Thinking about or attempting suicide is a common symptom in people with paranoid schizophrenia.

    Other Symptoms

    • Flashes of anger, anxiety, social distancing and confrontational behavior all are symptoms that accompany the more drastic ones in people with paranoid schizophrenia.

    Causes

    • Though there is no known cause for the condition, people with it in their families tend to have more than one case. Paranoid schizophrenia is usually treated with an array of medication and therapy.
