Maca grows in barren rocky areas at high altitude in the Andes region. Its root looks like a radish and has been used by indigenous people for improving sexual health, supporting the immune system, increasing energy and other benefits.

  1. Maca was grown as far back as during pre-Columbian times. According to one master herbalist, Spaniards conquering the region reported that maca increased fertility in their livestock.
