Symptoms of Anemia While Pregnant

It isn't uncommon for a pregnancy to bring on anemia. This is something that can happen quite easily as your body and hormones change with pregnancy. Sometimes you may never actually realize you are anemic, especially because some of the more predominant symptoms will seem almost normal for a pregnant woman. But there are other symptoms that are hallmarks of the condition, and which can indicate whether or not you're dealing with anemia.

  1. Fatigue

    • One of the most common symptoms of anemia while pregnant will involve some level of fatigue or weakness.

    Paleness

    • Many women who become anemic while pregnant will notice a paleness in their skin, more so under the fingernails and on the lips.

    Palpitations

    • Some women dealing with anemia while pregnant will also suffer from heart palpitations, rapid heart rhythms or uneven heartbeats.

    Shortness of Breath

    • When a woman becomes anemic during pregnancy, she may begin to experience episodes of shortness of breath even in the absence of physical exertion.

    Lack of Concentration

    • Pregnant women who have become anemic can also begin to suffer from a lack of concentration or focus.
