What Is Juvederm?

Using hyaluronic acid, Juvederm is a filler that is injected into the skin to plump and soften lines on the face and reduce wrinkles. Approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the product also claims to provide longer lasting results than most products currently on the market.

  1. What is Hyaluronic Acid?

    • The main ingredient in Juvederm, hyaluronic acid is a substance that is found naturally in the human skin and muscles. This element is extremely absorbent and is known for its hydrating and volume enhancing properties to the skin.

    How Juvederm Works

    • Created by scientists, Juvederm is a non-surgical procedure that is administered by a physician. Juvederm is a gel that is injected into the wrinkles and lines of the skin that immediately makes the skin smooth and more full. The product is designed to last more than a year, and can even be combined with Botox for a more dramatic effect.

    Who Can Use Juvederm?

    • Anyone over 18 can be authorized to use Juvederm but the product is specifically designed for those who want to fill in lines around the eyes, deep folds and creases in the face and plump the lips.

    Side Effects of Juvederm

    • After receiving an injection, an individual may experience swelling, redness, tingling and tenderness of the skin. Symptoms are temporary and generally last less than a week. Some people may experience facial lumps or bumps, which may indicate a more severe effect where a doctor should be consulted.

    Types of Juvederm

    • Juvederm is available in two formulas--Juvederm Ultra and Juvederm Ultra Plus. Juvederm Ultra is designed to add shape and volume to mild wrinkles and fold on the face. Juvederm Ultra Plus is more concentrated formula to treat severe wrinkles and folds on the face.
