The average song runs between 2Mb (very short) and 6Mb (fairly long). So it's safe to say that an average song is approximately 4Mb. These sizes vary, but the average 3 1/2- to 4-minute song is about 4Mb.

So How Many Songs Will Fit in 1 Gb?

Since an average song equals 4Mb and a 1Gb micro SD card holds 1,024Mb of data, 1,024Mb divided by 4Mb equals approximately 256 songs.

Considerations

The size of your songs determines how many can be put onto any data storage device. If your songs consist mostly of shorter songs or smaller files, you can fit more individual songs on the disk. This also means that the opposite is true: If you have several 12-minute songs, your card will hold considerably less individual songs.
