Toddler Lesson Plan Ideas
Toddlers are always busy, always on the go, always learning. As a parent, you want to involve your toddler in activities that will encourage his development. Fortunately, you can do a lot just by playing with your toddler. Here are a few ideas to help your toddler learn and discover, while having fun at the same time.
-
Reading
-
Set aside time to read with your toddler every day. Choose books with engaging illustrations and repetitive, rhythmic language. Alphabet books and counting books are also good choices. Spend time looking at the pictures and naming the objects in them to encourage vocabulary development.
Sensory Play
-
Let your toddler play with a bucket of sand or water and your measuring cups, spoons and funnels. Make your own salt dough or slime or just use store-bought Play Doh.
-
Dramatic Play
-
Dramatic play encourages creativity and social skills. Give your toddler pots and pans, bowls and spoons to "cook" with. Start collecting clothes so your toddler can play dress-up.
Outdoor Play
-
Head outside with a large ball to practice throwing, bouncing and kicking. Start a game of follow the leader and have your toddler hopping, dancing and jumping around. All of these activities encourage large muscle development.
Science and Nature
-
Plant seeds with your toddler. Bean, zucchini and sunflower seeds are quick to sprout. Your toddler will love helping you take care of his new plants. Take a walk around the neighborhood with a specific goal in mind. One day, you might be collecting leaves for a collage; the next, you might be looking at bugs or flowers.
