The price differences between the 2009 Ford F150 light-duty pickup truck and the 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 are almost negligible. They depend on what trim levels and option packages the buyer chooses. Stripped-down base models are a different story, with the Ford F150 starting at about $20,058 and the Dodge Ram at $19,390.

  1. F150 Trim

    • The 2009 Ford F150 pickup offers seven trim levels.

The F150 comes in seven trim packages: the basic XL, sporty STX, the popular XLT, off-road 4X4, upscale Lariat, the much larger King Ranch and luxury Platinum models.

    Ram Trim

    • The 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 has five trim levels.

The five trim options are entry-level ST, the standard SLT, all-wheel drive TRX4, the Sport and the high-end Laramie.

    Ford Engine

    • The F150's 4.6-liter V-8 engine generats 248 horsepower.

For 2009, the F150 saw an upgrade to a 4.6-liter 248-horsepower V-8 engine as standard equipment, with an optional boost to 292 horsepower, or the 5.4-liter 310-horsepower V-8.

    Ram's Power

    • Dodge also offered the optional 5.7-liter Hemi engine for the Ram 1500.

The standard Ram powerplant is smaller than the F150's, thus giving the edge to Ford in towing power, as the Ram is equipped with a 3.7-liter V-6 at 215-horsepower or the optional 310-horsepower 4.7-liter V-8.

    Pricing Gets Higher

    • Interior of the 2009 F150.

Cab configurations, suspension, powerplant, four-wheel drive and tow packages, along with paint and interior accents, can boost the F150's price up to as much as $32,489 and the Ram's to $38,769.

    Considerations

    • Interior of the Dodge Ram 1500.

The F150 always led the industry in towing capabilities and cargo space, and is no exception compared to the Dodge Ram, but the Ram's aggressive front end body styling has held up with for more than 15 years and lives up to its reputation for durability.
