Lettuce and peppers in containers.Any container that can hold dirt can become a small vegetable garden. Planters that come with self-watering systems make caring for the potted vegetables easier. -
Raised planting bed.Raised beds are like containers, but set on the ground. They have no bottoms so the vegetable root system can spread out and grow deeper to gather more nutrients, but the plants are still contained by walls so they take up little room. -
Strawberries grown in a flower bed.A patch of land around a shed or by the foundation of a house is enough room to plant vegetables. Add a trellis and climbing varieties of cucumbers and beans will happily grow in the small area. -
Cherry tomatoes in two foot circular plot.Dig a square of land a couple feet wide and you'll have enough room for a few vegetable plants. Tomatoes, peppers and peas can all be grown in small spaces like this. -
Ten-foot wide plot.Expand the square of earth used for the small plot to approximately 10 feet around and you can add enough rows for a wide variety of vegetables to feed a small family.
