Types of Coat Hangers

Coat hangers come in many types for hanging all sorts of clothing. Wire hangers can be used for all types of clothing, but newer, more popular styles include clear and tube plastic hangers, pant and skirt hangers, padded hangers, combination suit hangers and smaller hangers for children. Specialty hangers are also available that hold multiple items in tiers to save space.

Wire Hangers

Wire hangers are the type that your clothes are on when you pick them up from the dry cleaner. Sometimes they are paper-covered wire.

Plastic Hangers

Plastic hangers are the "tube" type hanger you can find in most household goods or discount department store. Another type is the clear plastic hangers, used for clothing in stores.

Pant and Skirt Hangers

Pant and skirt hangers are the type with clips on the bottom to grip and hold your clothing in place. Tiered hangers are available for space-saving needs. Pant and skirt hangers are sometimes plastic or a combination of wire and plastic or wire and wood.

Padded Hangers

Padded hangers are used for hanging delicate items or clothing that could easily slip off of the other types.

Suit Hangers

Suit hangers are a combination hanger that have a bar across the bottom with two clips for the pants or skirt and typically a wide wooden hanger at the top for the jacket.

Children's Hangers

Children's hangers are typically plastic, but are a smaller version of adult hangers.
