Xanax is also known as alprazolam, which is a type of benzodiazepine. Xanax is typically used to treat panic attacks and anxiety disorders because it has anxiolytic and sedative properties. It comes in two different forms: a shorter acting version and an extended-release version. Xanax can also be habit-forming, resulting in physical addiction and the possibility of withdrawal symptoms when Xanax is unavailable.
