What Are All-Season Tires?

You may have heard the term all-season tires before and not understood exactly what it means. To understand just what an all season tire is, and what the difference is betwen it and other tires, is to be a smart car owner.

  1. Definition

    • All season tires are designed to work on a car during wet and dry seasons.

    Snow

    • All season tires are most often compared to snow tires because all season tires are not designed to handle any signifigant amounts of snow. All season tires are more accurately decsribed as three season tires in snowy climates.

    Performance

    • All season tires do moderately well in most conditions, but do not handle as well in winter climates or when acting as touring tires in the summer.

    Use

    • All season tires make up about 80 percent of tire sales.

    Warrenties

    • All season tires come with a warranty and range from 30,000 to 50,000 miles on average. Winter and touring tires last a much shorter amount of time.
