Mild Psoriasis Treatments

Psoriasis is a condition where the skin cells on the body grow too quickly, resulting in red blotches that can become inflamed, itchy and eventually form into plaque. If psoriasis is mild, there are several treatment options that can be used.

  1. Tar

    • Coal tar is one of the most common ways to treat psoriasis, and is found in creams, oils and shampoos.

    Acid

    • Salicylic acid comes in ointments or creams, and is used to help promote the removal of scales.

    Moisturizers

    • Various ointment-based moisturizers are used to relieve itching, dryness and any further scaling.

    Sun

    • Daily, brief exposure to sunlight is a viable treatment to help reduce inflammation and dry up scales that have developed.

    Analogues

    • Dovonex is a prescription cream that contains Vitamin-D analogues that help to keep skin cells from growing excessively. Clobex and Taclonex Scalp are two other effective medications available with a prescription.
