- Pumps with a closed or peep-toe, pointy-toed shoes and sling-back heels are all great choices that come in a wide range of heel sizes. Try to get a heel four inches or lower for the office. Don't wear strappy sandals, flip flops or wedge heels.
- Try not to wear bracelets that make a lot of noise when you move or type, such as bangles and heavy charm bracelets. Anklets, visible body jewelry (except for earrings) and toe rings are also not professional attire.
- Make sure that your top completely covers your stomach, and has sleeves; if you wear a sleeveless top, pair it with a cardigan, sweater or over-shirt. Avoid low cut and cleavage-bearing shirts, shirts with logos or slang, and see-through tops. Typically, it's fine to wear a top with bright colors--just pair it with a neutral blazer, sweater or jacket.
- Only wear pants that will cover your bottom when you're sitting; in other words, no super low-rise pants. Don't wear denim, skirts more than two inches above the knee, see-through bottoms (look in a mirror to make sure) or leggings. Capri-style pants and shorts should also be avoided.
- Stockings and pantyhose are not necessary in order to look professional. If you want to wear pantyhose, chose navy, black or nude; when wearing open-toed shoes, a skirt or dress, wear flesh-toned stockings.
- Scarves can add a fashionable touch, but keep them professional-looking by avoiding very bright colors, animal prints and metallic prints.
