India is known for its creation of some of the most beautiful pieces of jewelry in the world. As far back as 5000 years ago Indians began making jewelry. The world can attribute a large portion of its diamonds to the country as well. Recently, there has also been a surge in the production and export of gold jewelry from Indian.

The people of the Indus Valley began making jewelry as early as 1,500 B.C.E., or "Before the common era." (B.C.E. years are equivalent to years B.C.) They are thought to be the first people to do so.
Diamonds

India was also the first country to mine diamonds. It is widely believed that they used precious gems even before the discovery of diamonds.

Each region in India has its own style and design technique. The Delhi and Gujarat prefer beads, while the Rajasthan are inclined to use silver.
