The nursing field is a popular career option for many people. Whether as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN), there are several choices within the workforce. Nurses may find gainful positions at all levels of medical practice.

Home Health

Both LPNs and RNs provide care to patients who wish to remain at home. They give medications, treat wounds, and provide personal and end-of-life care.
Nursing Home

In nursing homes, LPNs give medicines, perform wound care and chart patients' progress. RNs may work directly with patients or hold supervisory positions.

Hospital

Nurses in hospitals can work in emergency rooms, ICUs, labor and delivery units, nursery areas and intermediate care floors.
Doctor's Office

Doctors' offices are often staffed by LPNs, but may hire RNs as well. Duties consist of taking vital signs, obtaining lab specimens and assisting doctors with treatments.
Agencies

Nursing agencies employ both LPNs and RNs. These nurses fill vacant positions in all types of medical facilities on a temporary basis.
