What Is a BlackBerry Ping?
A BlackBerry ping is but one way to get another BlackBerry owner's attention through the Messenger application. Not all BlackBerry models come with BlackBerry Messenger software loaded onto the device; however, it is available for most models via free download. The BlackBerry Messenger software allows two BlackBerry owners to communicate instantly like instant messenger on your computer.
-
Function
-
The ping feature is quite useful in starting a conversation, or for getting your contact's attention. Since the ping feature may trigger a different alert than a normal message, your contact has a chance to notice your message.
Features
-
Users can customize their BlackBerry smart phones to vibrate (or not) when a ping is received. From your contact list within the Messenger application, click the "Menu" key and select "Options".
-
Considerations
-
Since individual users can customize the way they receive a ping, it is not guaranteed that your contact will quickly respond to it.
Sending a Ping
-
Open BlackBerry Messenger, select the contact, view the menu, and select "Ping Contact." The contact will immediately receive a message that says "PING," and the phone will execute the personal settings.
Emoticons
-
Express yourself in Messenger with emoticons. Simply click the "Symbol" key twice while drafting a message, and select the icon that best expresses how you feel.
