Types of Greek Painting
Painting is just one of the many different types of Greek art. The Greeks have been painting since the Bronze age. The best type of preserved Greek art today are vase paintings. Five types of Greek paintings exist.

Panel Paintings

This type of Greek painting was done on wooden boards. The most popular types of Greek panel paintings were still life, portraits and landscapes. These paintings were often on display in public places.
Wall Paintings

These paintings were found on walls mostly, but they could also be found in tombs. These wall paintings showed scenes of celebrations, gatherings and events.

Architecture Paintings

This form of Greek painting was used to enhance architecture. The majority of this painting was done with bright colors in the form of patterns.
Sculpture Paintings

The majority of Greek sculptures were painted. In most of the sculptures the flesh parts were not painted. The only parts that were painted were the parts that depicted hair and clothing.
Vase Paintings

Vase paintings are the biggest survivor of Greek paintings. Today, you can see Greek vase paintings in many museums. This type of Greek painting required the most skill because they were more detailed than any of the other types of Greek painting.
