What Causes Anal Warts?

Anal warts form on the outside of the anus near the rectum. Anal warts have many causes ranging from digestive disorders and complications. There are six common causes of anal warts.

  1. Unprotected Anal Intercourse

    • Both men and women who engage in unprotected anal intercourse run a great risk of contracting anal warts. During anal intercourse, the inserting partner should wear a condom, as well as cover adult toys with condoms, to prevent the spread of anal warts and other sexually transmitted diseases and infections.

    Constipation

    • As a result of the straining that often accompanies constipation, tears in the delicate skin around the anus can become infected which can cause anal warts. Avoid becoming constipated by making any necessary dietary changes or by following an appropriate regimen for treating constipation that is unrelated to dietary causes.

    Hemorrhoids

    • Hemorrhoids which protrude outside the anus are called external hemorrhoids. After the hemorrhoid heals, the skin around the anus still carries a wart. To prevent hemorrhoids, avoid straining to have a bowel movement. Make the necessary dietary and medical adjustments to avoid becoming constipated.

    Germs

    • Public toilets are breeding grounds for germs which can cause anal warts. If you absolutely must use a public toilet, then use sanitation covers that are provided in many public toilets.

    Improper Wiping

    • Sometimes fecal residue can remain on the outside of the anus after a bowel movement. The bacteria in the fecal residue can sometimes cause anal warts. Be sure to wipe thoroughly after a bowel movement. If you can't get completely cleaned using toilet paper alone, try using moistened toilet paper or a bidet to become completely cleaned around the anus after a bowel movement.

    Change Your Underwear Daily

    • Wearing soiled underwear can cause anal warts in much the same fashion as not getting cleaned enough after a bowel movement. Even underwear which has been laundered can still carry the bacteria.
