Signs of Worms in Cats

It is very common for cats to become infected with worms, so knowing the symptoms and warning signs is important for any cat owner. While the most common symptom is diarrhea or lack of appetite, each parasite has its set of signs. Luckily, almost of all worms are easy to treat with the right regimen of medicine

  1. Tapeworms

    • Tapeworm infections are usually asymptomatic. Sometimes a cat will experience irritation in its anus as it passes the worms.

    Roundworms

    • Cats with a roundworm infection will suffer from diarrhea and a bloated abdomen. Kittens are affected more severely and may vomit and have a fever.

    Hookworms

    • This very serious parasite can cause fatigue, diarrhea or black stool and vomiting.

    Whipworms

    • A cat with a whipworm infestation will have diarrhea, lack of appetite, weight loss and sometimes anemia.

    Heartworms

    • Though dogs are more likely to get heartworms than cats, a cat with this condition will exhibit little symptoms but may die from damage caused to the heart.
