What Is in an Average Pencil Case?
Pencil cases are must-haves through elementary and middle school years. They hold many items that are necessary for the child to use throughout the day. Pencil cases come in a wide variety of shapes, sizes, and styles. However, there are a few common items that are almost always found within a pencil case.

Pencil cases get their name from their purpose of carrying pencils. Number 2 and mechanical pencils are both commonly found in a pencil case.
Erasers

Erasers are a necessary items for a pencil case. Most often these are in the form of the pink rectangle eraser and the pencil-topper erasers.

Grippers

Grippers are squishy pieces of rubber that slide over the bottom portion of the pencil. These are often found in pencil cases because they make pencils more comfortable to use.
Pens

Pens are common, but they are usually found in pencil cases of older elementary school children. Upper elementary children practice writing with pens to prepare for middle school.
Ruler

Rulers are common items in pencil cases. Both straight plastic rulers and protractors come in handy during classes.
Sharpener

Pencil sharpeners are carried in pencil cases to resharpen broken or new pencils. The most common sharpener is small with a plastic dome to catch the shavings.
