Ambien CR is a stronger version of the medicine Ambien, which is a short-term sleep medication prescribed for insomniacs. The manufacturer of this product, Sanofi-Aventis, claims that the medication, also known as Zolpedim, can be habit-forming.

Ambien CR usually comes in several doses ranging from 6.25 to 12.5 mg. The pills are a circular shape, with there being two distinct colors that separate the mg sizes: pink (6.25 mg) and blue (12.5 mg).
Function

Ambien CR's drug name is Zolpidem, which acts as a anti-convulsant and muscle relaxant. It also functions in a similar way to Sertraline, in that the medicine binds to the chemical sleep receptors in the brain, inducing sleep.

Ambien CR is for individuals who not only have trouble falling asleep but staying asleep as well. CR comes in the form of a two-layer medication, which dissolves slowly in the body allowing solid rest.
Side Effects

Ambien CR has been known to cause event-amnesia. This form of amnesia is one that causes the patient to occasionally forget eating, driving, napping, or performing other relatively quick tasks. Only minor cases of this have been reported though.
