If you love weddings and have great organizational skills, you may be considering becoming a wedding planner and helping brides plan their dream weddings. As with any job, look at the benefits and drawbacks of this career before making your decision.

    Flexibility

  1. As a wedding planner, you have a flexible work schedule and can easily rearrange meetings and such to accommodate other things in your life, such as children and family.
  2. Drama

  3. You are dealing with the most important day of a person's life, and she may be obsessed with it being perfect. You will have to cater to her every whim and may have to deal with some meltdowns, breakdowns and family drama.
  4. People Skills

  5. As a wedding planner, you will meet different people and work with a variety of personalities, so if you're an outgoing people person, this career could be right for you. Daily interaction and excellent phone skills are necessary to be successful.
  6. Pressure

  7. You will have to solve last-minute problems, cancellations and situations that arise. These can be frustrating, sometimes impossible, and will likely have people screaming at you to make things work. The pressure and time constraints for some weddings may give you headaches and make you frantic.
  8. Social Events

  9. As a wedding planner, you may attend great parties, go through numerous cake and food tastings and have opportunities to dress up. If these are things you enjoy, you're in the right business.
  10. Time Loss

  11. Your weekends will be full of work responsibilities. If you have a family or like to do things on the weekends, this will become impossible, especially during the busy wedding season in the spring and summer.
