U.S. Army Retirement Benefits
U.S. Army veterans who retire with at least 20 satisfactory years of service are entitled to many benefits. These benefits include medical care, burial and funeral benefits, life insurance, military base access and shopping privileges, as well as other benefits.

Health Care

Retired Army veterans are entitled to healthcare via the Veterans Administration. Veterans may be seen and treated at any VA clinic or hospital. Veterans who retired from active duty with the Army are also entitled to military healthcare via Tricare, and may be treated at the nearest military installation or through a civilian health care provider (see Resources).
ID Card/Base Access

Retired Army veterans receive a retired military identification card and unlimited access to all military installations.

Base/Post Services

Retired Army veterans enjoy unlimited shopping privileges at shops, commissaries, and base or post exchanges on military installations. Retirees may also avail themselves of any of the services offered by a base or post, including hobby shops, gym, library, golf course, club and other amenities.
Life Insurance

Retired Army veterans may continue their life insurance coverage under the Servicemembers Group Life Insurance (SGLI) plan for a nominal cost. Insurance coverage is offered in amounts of up to $400,000.
Funeral Benefits

Retired Army veterans are entitled to full military funeral benefits, to include a flag, casket and grave marker. A military bugler and color guard will also provide full funeral honors.
