Cell phones are good to use in the case of emergencies. This can be seen with car accidents or medical emergencies such as when someone is choking in a restaurant.

Cell phones are used by people to remind others of specific tasks. For example, a man might call his wife to remind her to pick up something from the grocery store or that she has a doctor's appointment.

Texting is done by inputting messages into the cell phone and sending them to another party. It is a way to communicate quick messages without having to make a call.
