Red Tea Health Benefits

It used to be that when you were offered a cup of tea, the only considerations were whether to add cream, sugar or lemon. In 2009, an abundance of tea is enjoyed in numerous blends, flavors and strengths. Green, black and herbal teas have recently been applauded for their many proclaimed benefits, and currently, red tea has entered the mix.

  1. Research

    • At an international symposium on tea held in September 1998, scientists revealed studies that affirmed that drinking three 6-oz. cups of tea daily may help fight cancer, limit the risk of heart disease and reduce the effects of aging.

Minerals, Vitamins and Nutrients in Red Tea

    • Red tea contains magnesium, an essential mineral for a well-functioning nervous system. In addition, it allows the body to more efficiently absorb iron. Potassium and copper, imperative for metabolic functions, are found in red tea, which is also rich in vitamins C and E.

    Weight Loss Aid

    • It has been suggested that red tea helps keep appetite in check and can be helpful in weight loss and weight maintenance.

    Mood Enhancer

    • Red tea is often used for mild depression and nervousness. Many have found it to have relaxing, calming and soothing properties.

    Immunity

    • Red tea contains polyphenols, which are dominant antioxidants. They fight damage caused by free radicals and make DNA more resistant to change. This makes red tea a possible combatant against cancer.
