Cold sores can be annoying and can appear around the lips and mouth. When cold sores appear, they appear as little cauliflower shaped clusters. These become filled with fluid, which can be infectious if they come in contact with an uninfected person. Although there is no cure for cold sores, they can be controlled by avoiding certain types of food.

  1. Peanuts

    • Foods that are rich in Arginine can trigger a cold sore outbreak. Peanuts and any other peanut products such as peanut butter can trigger outbreaks.

    Chocolate

    • Eating chocolate is also known to trigger a cold sore outbreak. Chocolate has a high level of Arginine, which brings on a cold sore when eaten.

    Oatmeal

    • Eating oats or oatmeal on a regular basis can trigger cold sores. Some people may not be affected by it because of strong immune systems.

    Almond

    • Almond as well as other nuts can cause a cold sore outbreak. Avoid eating almonds or foods that include almond in them if you're predisposed to cold sores.

    Caffeine

    • Caffeine when consumed in excess amounts can also trigger cold sore. Sodas and beverages such as coffee have caffeine in them.
