Types of Jelly Beans

Jelly beans are small, bean-shaped candies that come in different flavors. They have a gummy texture inside of a hard candy shell. The primary ingredient is sugar. There are only two types of jelly beans: regular and gourmet. These candies are quite often part of the traditional Easter basket candy assortment. In recent history, Ronald Reagan was known for keeping a jar of jelly beans on his desk when he was president in the 1980s.

Regular Jelly Beans

The regular jelly beans are also referred to as old-fashioned jelly beans. These were first produced in the early 1900s. They originally came in basic flavors: cherry, lemon, orange, lime, licorice, vanilla, blueberry and cotton candy.

Gourmet Jelly Beans

Gourmet jelly beans are sometimes smaller than the standard jelly bean. They come in many different flavors, such as cinnamon, ginger, pina colada, Dr. Pepper, cola, margarita, tutti frutti, chocolate, bubble gum and caramel apple.

Jelly Belly

Jelly Belly is a famous brand of gourmet jelly beans. These were the type that President Reagan kept in a jar on his desk. The company's many candy flavors are categorized, such as Official 50 flavors, Rookie Flavors, Fruit Bowl, Tropical Mix, Bean Boozled, Sport Beans, Sugar Free and others.

Teenee Beanee

Just Born is a company who manufactures a well-known gourmet jelly bean called Teenee Beanee. Their specialty flavors are also categorized, with titles such as American Medley, Island Breeze, Country Retreats and Luxor Licorice.

Organic
