What Are the Duties of a Chaplain?
A chaplain's job is to facilitate the spiritual health and growth of their parishioners. Chaplains are most popular in the military, but may be assigned to other organizations, such as hospitals and prisons.

Chapel Services
-
Chaplains hold chapel services each week, on the day prescribed by their faith. For Jewish or Catholic chaplains, that may be Saturday, while Protestant chaplains will usually hold their chapel services on Sundays.
Prayer Assistance
-
Chaplains will also pray with their parishioners outside of chapel services. Parishioners who are going through difficult situations are encouraged to meet with the chaplain for prayer.
-
Spiritual Guidance
-
Chaplains will also offer spiritual guidance to their parishioners. This can be in the form of counseling sessions or Bible or other spiritual book readings.
Mediation
-
Chaplains also offer mediation services for parishioners who are dealing with relationship issues. Some such cases would be a couple who is experiencing marital problems, or parents who are having discipline issues with their child.
Workshops
-
Chaplains will also host workshops to assist parishioners in improving their life skills. Marriage enrichment and parenting classes are the most popular.
