Alcohol Abuse Among Teenagers

Alcohol-related accidents among teens are a dangerous reality. Risky behaviors and sexual activity are other results of alcohol abuse. Parents should talk to their children about alcohol and the many hazards associated with it. Though drinking is uncommon in kids under the age of 14 (high school kids more frequently indulge), raising awareness and communicating your concerns early should not be postponed.

Depression

Teens who are depressed or suffer from emotional disturbances are more likely to abuse alcohol.

Family History

Teens with a family history of alcohol dependence will be more easily drawn to alcohol.

Curfew

Teens who have a fractured relationship with parents are more prone to alcohol consumption.

Gateway Drug

Alcohol is often called "the gateway drug" because it introduces many young adults to other addictive drugs.
