Symptoms of Acute Hepatitis B

There are six different types of hepatitis. All are characterized by an inflammation or injury of the liver due to viral infection. The liver is an important organ in the bod, as it filters the blood of toxins and is a storage center for glycogen. If acute hepatitis B sets in, there can be some specific symptoms.

  1. Contact

    • Acute hepatitis B is contracted through contact with an infected person's blood. This often occurs through accidental punctures with health care workers or drug abusers who share needles.

    Features

    • Symptoms of hepatitis B can take up to three months before they are noticeable. The symptoms are acute, meaning they last only for a short time, generally a few weeks.

    Fatigue

    • Energy levels are compromised when hepatitis B sets in. Feelings of fatigue and lethargy are common.

    Stomach

    • Several symptoms can affect the stomach. These include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain and decreased appetite.

    Yellow

    • Jaundice is a condition where the eyes and skin appear yellow and is often seen in children and people who eat a lot of beta carotene. Jaundice is also a symptom of acute hepatitis B..

    Other Symptoms

    • There are some other symptoms that affect the body's elimination system. Urine can appear dark, and stools can appear clay-colored.
