What Are the Benefits of LCDTV?

LCD stands for "liquid crystal display," which is how LCD TVs deliver their sharp, clear image. They differ from plasma screen TVs, which provide equally sharp images but use completely different methods to do so. The pros and cons of the two television types continue to be debated, but LCD TV offers a number of notable advantages over both plasma TVs and older tube-based TVs.

  1. Thinness

    • The liquid crystal in LCD TV screens makes them very thin. That allows LCDs to be placed in locations where older TVs could never fit... or even hung on the wall like a picture.

    HDTV

    • Like plasma screen TVs, LCD TVs are capable of very sharp and clear reception. That means that high definition programming can be viewed as it was intended on LCD TVs.

    Energy Consumption

    • LCD TVs are lit by a single lamp, unlike plasma TVs which light every pixel on their screen. As a result, LCD TVs use much less energy than plasma screens.

    Weight

    • Because LCDs don't have as many components in their screens, they weight much less than plasma screen TVs.

    Altitude

    • Plasma screen TVs run into problems in higher altitudes, which affect the gases used in their construction. LCD TVs have no such concerns, and thus work much better in higher elevations.
