How does Temaril-P for dogs work?

Temaril-P tablets contain a combination of trimeprazine and prednisolone. These meds work synergistically to alleviate symptoms that occur as a result of an immune response, like itching and inflammation.

Trimeprazine, an antihistamine, counteracts histamines. These chemicals are released by the immune system during an allergic reaction to remove allergens from the body and can produce a variety of unpleasant symptoms. Trimeprazine provides relief of itching, inflammation, and coughing that occur when histamines are produced during an allergic reaction. Sedation is another effect of trimeprazine.

Prednisolone, a corticosteroid, is a type of steroid that mimics cortisol, a naturally occurring hormone. Similar to antihistamines, corticosteroids stop the immune system from producing chemicals that trigger inflammation. By reducing inflammation, it also helps to relieve pain by relieving pressure on surrounding nerves.
