The side effects of silicone breast implants are much like the side effects of saline implants. Depending on how the implant is placed, there are different side effects.

    Potential Side Effect #1

  1. There is naturally always the side effects of surgery. Mild to severe pain and soreness will last for weeks until the breasts have completely healed from the operation.
  2. Potential Side Effect #2

  3. Losing partial or complete feeling in the nipples and breast area due to cut nerves from the surgery. This damage is irreversible.
  4. Potential Side Effect #3

  5. Getting implants may interfere with breastfeeding since milk glands can be cut and damaged during surgery.
  6. Potential Side Effect #4

  7. While silicone implants may not cause cancer, they can get in the way of getting a good mammography screening. The implants can hide breast cancer, making it hard to detect until it is too late.
  8. Potential Side Effect #5

  9. Silicone implants, as well as saline implants, might spring a hole and leak the inner substance into the surrounding breast tissue. Silicone is less likely to leak as much as saline because silicone is firmer and gummier, but leaking can still happen.
  10. Warning

  11. No implant will last forever, and rupturing is possible. Implants should be screened to make sure they are intact. They might also have to be replaced with new implants.
