While not a comprehensive list of essential oils for cleaning by any means, this list is of the oils that are generally the most effective. Eucalyptus works well as a grease cutter. Lavender is a sweet and woody scent that is an all purpose air freshener. Lemon or lemongrass makes an effective all purpose cleaner and disinfectant as it has antibacterial and anti-fungal properties. Lemon is also good for erasing odors. Jasmine is an effective all purpose cleaner and whitener as well as a mold and mildew killer. Thyme is one of the most effective disinfectants. Tea tree, cinnamon and clove essential oils are all very useful as cleaners and disinfectants as well. All essential oils need to be diluted and mixed with other ingredients such as water or vinegar to make an effective household cleaner.
