Diabetic Diet-Approved Foods
Diabetic diet-approved foods are part of the food pyramid and therefore come from all food groups. Diabetics need fiber, carbohydrates, lean protein, vegetables, dairy, fruits and fats for a healthy diet. What they do not need are foods high in sugar, saturated fat and empty-calorie foods.

Fruits
-
Fruits are good sources of fiber. Juices have little fiber, so choose fruit over juice.
-
Milk
-
Milk and milk products are good sources of calcium. Choose fat-free or low-fat milk products.
Non-Starchy Vegetables
-
Non-starchy vegetables includes broccoli, spinach, carrots, summer squash, cauliflower, green beans, cabbage and kale, to name a few.
Protein
-
Protein is important for growth, maintenance and energy. Choose lean cuts of meat and plenty of fish.
