EMT Basic Job Description

An emergency medical technician, or EMT, is the primary caregiver before an injured or ill person arrives at a hospital. EMTs usually work closely with paramedics, who have more extensive training in emergency medical services. At least two EMS professionals, an EMT and paramedic, or two EMTs, travel in an ambulance to an accident scene or other situation requiring emergency transport; one drives, and the other monitors the patient during transport.
