What Flowers Grow Best in Full Sun?

Plants use the light from the sun to produce energy to live and grow through the process of photosynthesis. But while sunlight is essential, some plants can get sunburn or be damaged if they receive too much direct sunlight. Below are some plants that will thrive in full sun and would do well in a garden that is an open, unshaded area.

    Orchid Cactus

  1. Orchid cactus is a flat cactus that will grow upright or cascade over the edges of the pot. It blooms in spring with flowers that come in red, pink, white and purple.
  2. Yellow Alyssum Flowers

  3. Yellow Alyssum is a ground cover with blue, gray foliage. It has bright yellow flowers in April and May.
  4. Easter Cactus

  5. Easter cactus is another flat cactus that has segmented sections. Its star-shaped flowers range from red to pink, and it blooms in spring.
  6. Crown of Thorns

  7. Crown of Thorns is a succulent that can grow up to 6 feet and has large oval leaves that drop seasonally. Its four pedaled flowers are round and come in red or yellow.
  8. Sun Flowers

  9. Sun flowers will grow up to 9 feet tall and are best planted in clusters in the spring. The large yellow flowers produce edible sun flower seeds.
