Guard Dog Safety Signs

Guard dog safety signs are for the protection of your community. Most laws require that there be some warning to anyone coming onto your property that there is a trained guard dog on the premises. This keeps unsuspecting people who may want to come visit and have no idea that you own a guard dog from getting hurt. The ultimate reason for having a guard dog is to keep out people you don't want, such as burglars, not to harm innocent friends and neighbors. There are signs in a variety of sizes and materials, as well as price ranges. Make sure you understand the guidelines for the signs in your community.

  1. Function

    • The function of a guard dog sign is to alert anyone who may enter your property that you have a dog trained to protect the property and/or the owners of the property.

    Warning

    • There is no designated statute preventing you from being sued should someone enter the premises and be harmed while on your property by your guard dog. Since most guidelines are unclear on both sides, you could be sued if damage or injury is done to someone on or near your property by your dog.

    Types

    • There are a variety of signs to choose from. Aluminum signs, plastic signs, signs that hang and signs that stick in the ground--it is really a matter of preference.

    Prices

    • The price for a guard dog sign is relatively inexpensive, unless you choose to have one custom made from wood or more durable materials than the usual plastic signs. The plastic and aluminum ones range from $5 to $25.

    Benefits

    • The benefits of having a guard dog sign posted are to give fair warning to anyone in the area that you have a dog trained to protect you. The posting will also deter some burglars from entering your property.
