Yoga Exercises for Pregnant Women

Yoga is a from of flexibility exercise that is very popular in the world today. There are various forms that include Hatha, Vinyasa and Iyengar. There is even a form called Bikram Yoga that takes place in a room that is heated up to 105 degrees Fahrenheit. Women who are pregnant often times resort to yoga as a way to stay flexible during pregnancy.

  1. Significance

    • Pregnancy comes with some side effects that are not always comfortable. Some of these include constipation and morning sickness. Yoga exercises can reduce these symptoms significantly, and yoga can also help delivery go more smoothly.

    Function

    • During pregnancy, range of motion is compromised, and there is more stress on the lower back. That can lead to pain. Yoga exercises are used to help relieve pain and maintain flexibility.

    Easy Pose

    • The easy yoga pose is done by sitting on a blanket or mat. With your shins crossed and on the ground, slide your feet under your knees. Place your hands on top of your legs. Breathe deeply.

    Extended Triangle

    • Triangle pose.

      Stand with your feet together. Take a giant step to the left; place your foot parallel to your body. Turn your right foot in about 90 degrees. Shift your hips slightly to the right. Place the back of your left hand on the inside of your left thigh. Now bend down to the left as you slide your hand down the inside of your thigh as far as you can comfortably go. While you are bending down, your hand should be straight above. It should be as though you are reaching for the sky.

    Lotus

    • From a seated position on the floor, bend your right knee. Lift your foot; place it on top of your left thigh. Bend your left knee. Lift your left foot; place it on your right thigh. Place your hands on your knees with the palms up. Be sure to keep your back straight throughout.

    Warning

    • There are a couple things that should be taken into consideration while doing yoga during pregnancy. Poses should not be done on your back after the first trimester, and you should avoid hot yoga as this can put the fetus in danger.
