Lotions help trap moisture next to the skin so that it does not evaporate away. An effective moisturizer will protect the skin and keep it from getting irritated and flaky, making it look older and less healthy.

Considerations

For lotions to be the most effective, you have to apply them while the skin is damp so that the moisture on your skin can be trapped against it. Some less-expensive lotions are just as effective as their pricey counterparts.
