    • Median starting salary is about $185,000, with an increase to over $240,000 with five years of experience.

    Salary Range

    • The salary range for orthopedic surgeons is very wide. A 2006 survey by the Locum Tenens website indicates that although 41 percent of orthopedic surgeons earn under $225,000 a year, another 21 percent earn over $400,000.

    • A 2008 survey from Integrated Healthcare Strategies showed the top 25 percent of orthopedic surgeons earned between $518,000 and $730,000 annually.
