History of Plymouth Neon LX Cars

Chrysler hit all the right notes when it introduced the Plymouth Neon in 1995. Also badged as the near identical Chrysler and Dodge Neons, the Plymouth Neon LX model was a larger compact car, four-wheel drive and developed a surprising reputation as a fierce competitor on the race track. Plymouth's demise in 2001 put an end to the Neon LX, which only had a two-year run.

  1. Not the First

    • The 2000 LX model.

The Plymouth Neon LX debuted in 2000, having following the Chrysler Neon LX, which was introduced in 1995.

    Quick concept

    • It took Chrysler only 31 months to bring the Neon from idea to the assembly line.

    New Identity

    • Although the body style is a sedan, its stance madeit a natural for the race track.

A custom Hemi-powered LX's leaner and more defined body and wide stance made the car a favorite at stock car and drag racing venues.

    Power Loss

    • Standard road LX models did not benefit from bigger engines and received only the 2-liter version.

While the 1995 to 1999 Neons were powered by either a 132-horsepower 2-liter engine or the 150-hp version, the standard road LX was only given 132 horses.

    Bigger in Compact Terms

    • The 2001 LX features a longer windshield to give the illusion of a longer body.

The LX with a 105-inch wheelbase gave it an extra inch from previous models, but its more rakish windshield helps add a longer look.

    Types

    • Interior of the 2000 LX had less plastic and more cloth than the 1995-1999 Neons.

The LX was offered only as a four-door sedan.
