Symptoms of a Transmission Problem

The transmission is an important part of the car and can also be a costly one to repair. Before a transmission completely fails, it will give you any warning signs that there's a problem. By taking care of issues as they become known, you can save yourself thousands of dollars by repairing the transmission instead of replacing it.

Leaking Fluid

Leaking transmission fluid means there is a problem and should be taken to a mechanic for an inspection. Transmission fluid is red.

Low Transmission Fluid

If transmission fluid consistently needs to be added, but there is no sign of a leak, the transmission is burning fluid as a result of overheating.

Transmission Slips

When shifting, the transmission does not shift quickly and firmly like it should. Instead, the car shifts slowly and the engine revs for a period of time before shifting into the next gear.

Fluid Contains Metal

Any amount of metal shavings means internal parts are grinding and the transmission should be serviced immediately.

Shifts Hard

The car shifts hard, giving the car a jerking motion when it shifts.
