Benefits of Chlorella

Chlorella is a type of single-cell green algae that contains a high amount of chlorophyll, vitamins, and nutrients. It is a food that is also used as a nutritional supplement. Chlorella grows naturally and is also harvested in artificial ponds. Do not purchase Chlorella that has been pasteurized or freeze dried, as these processes can rob Chlorella of its natural enzymes that help to promote digestion in the body.

  1. Composition

    • When dried, Chlorella is roughly composed of 10 percent minerals and vitamins, 5 percent fiber, 20 percent fat, 20 percent carbohydrate and 45 percent protein.

    Nutrients

    • Chlorella contains calcium, zinc, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, pantothenic acid and tryptophan, as well as Vitamins E, A, C and the B spectrum, among other nutrients.

    Detoxification

    • Chlorella is a highly effective detoxification tool. It binds with heavy metals and pesticides to remove these harmful substances from the body.

    Immune System

    • Chlorella stimulates the immune system's ability to respond to foreign bacteria, viruses and chemicals by increasing interferon levels.

    History

    • During the food shortages in the World War II era, researchers at Stanford University, the Carnegie Institute and elsewhere explored the possibility of cultivated Chlorella alleviating the problem. Enthusiasm for the project faltered when researchers realized that mass-scale cultivation was not economically feasible.
