Homemade Flea Treatments

Commercial anti-flea products contain a plethora of irritating, dangerous and unnecessary chemicals that many dog owners prefer to avoid by using homemade flea treatments. Moreover, homemade flea treatments generally cause no side effects and are safe for very young and very old pets. It is still important to treat pets cautiously when using homemade flea treatments, however, as some pets may react negatively to natural ingredients.

Types

Homemade flea treatments include using dish detergent during bathing, creating flea sprays with lemon or essential oils such as lavender and cedar wood, and making dietary changes that work to repel fleas.

When compared to most commercial treatments, homemade flea treatments are typically natural, less irritating, more soothing, considerably less expensive and better for the environment.

Considerations

While homemade flea treatments are often effective at preventing fleas and treating minor flea problems, severe infestations may require treatment with stronger, commercial products.
