What Is the Cause of a Canker Sore?

Canker sores, or also scientifically known as aphthous ulcers, can not only be annoying but also painful. They are a type of mouth ulcer that can interfere with usual activities such as eating and drinking. Salty foods are the most common thing to irritate a canker core.

  1. Immune System

    • If the immune system is weak, canker sores are more likely to occur. This usually happens when a person's immune system identifies chemical molecules that it doesn't recognize.

    Mouth Trauma

    • Mouth trauma such as a sharp potato chip, when someone bites their own cheek, or a sharp tooth edge can cause a canker core. 38 percent of people who have canker cores usually get it from one of these forms of a mouth trauma.

    Stress

    • Many people who have suffered from a canker sore have had some form of emotional or physical stress. Stress can harm the health in a variety of ways.

    Diet

    • A vitamin deficiency can cause a canker sore. Such deficiencies include vitamins B1, B2, B6, B12, and Vitamin C.

    Allergies

    • Allergies to certain foods have been known to cause canker sores. Foods to stay away from if you have a history with canker sores include cereal grains, fruits and vegetables, dairy, additives, and other foods such as nuts and chocolate.
